Kjaer Weis (Make-Up Collection) by Marc Atlan
2010 - 2011, Golden A' Packaging Design Award Winner
In direct contradiction to the typical, “granola-type” organic aesthetic, we instead designed objects with the precious feel of modern jewelry
The Kjaer Weis make-up line can claim to be the first entirely refillable make-up system in the world
Design Challenges
Kirsten Kjaer Weis gave us “carte blanche” to design her brand new eponymous make-up collection from scratch. We were in charge of creating every single element, from the logotype to the product design to the packaging. It was important that it be an organic and green product line. One week after the launch, the line was picked up by the UK’s largest retail beauty chain with 82 stores in the United Kingdom & the United States. The line has been featured internationally in over 500 magazines & blogs. In addition, the design won a Red Dot, a Gold Pentaward and is shortlisted in Wallpaper* Magazine’s Design Awards 2011 as one of the top 5 designs of 2010.
Production Technology
-The refillable compacts are cast in Zamac (Alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium and Copper). -The secondary packagings (red boxes) are made of leather-textured recycled stock, silkscreened in matte white, hot stamped in silver foil and sealed with a long silver paper strip bearing all ingredients and legal markings. -The product refills (white blisters) are made of 100% recycled paper pulp silkscreened with soy-based inks.
