Vespeo (Automatic Espresso MacHine) by Stefan Radev
2011 - 2012, Silver A' Home Appliances Design Award Winner
The Vespa lifestyle covers not only an aspect of mobility but italian flair and style aswell. This iconic scooter, reflects tradition, heritage and emotion. The espresso coffee has surprisingly a lot in common with the Vespa lifestyle. They both originate in Italy and stand for authentic passion. It was the missing link between the Vespa scooter and the Espresso that drove the inspiration for the Vespeo Espresso Machine.
A unique automatic espresso machine for the „scootertarians“ (scooter fans) and not only. Vespeo has the mission to bring an yet missing experience in the iconic Vespa scooter lifestyle.
Design Challenges
The design challenge was to interpret the essence of the Vespa lifestyle into the design language of an Espresso machine. This distinct design language had to reflect tradition, modernity and italian flair, defined by technical yet emotional surfaces. So the Vespeo has key elements like the analogue indicator, that symbolize a scooter dashboard, intelligently integrating importand information about steam, level of coffee and water. Surface finish, material and color combination have been specially selected to represent the ritual of coffee preparation and culture. The resulting lifestyle product is an easy to operate, compact espresso machine, aimed to complement Vespa's romantic lifestyle and enhance the enjoyment of coffee.
Production Technology
From an engineering point of view, the Vespeo Automatic Espresso MacHine by Stefan Radev is a good example of a highly-developed project.
