Ludovico Office (Drawer, Chair & Desk Combo) by Claudio Sibille
2011 - 2012, Golden A' Furniture and Homeware Design Award Winner
Inspiration
I found inspiration in the simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design mixed with Pittamiglio´s castle logic.
Creativity
The extraction of the chair from the main furniture and the way it helps to save space is the main subject here. The chair is only perceptible when extracted from the main body. The furniture itself is a full mini easy-transportable office which can be moved easily from one end of a home to the other with ease.
Design Challenges
The real challenge in this project as in my previous Ludovico one, was elaborating a unique, original, fresh and above all, simple solution for space saving unlike anything out there. After many many geometrical drawings and sketches i suddenly drew a typical chair paradigm and then, with no apparent reason, drew a box surrounding it. Then, what is now so obvious and simple, came to me as a revelation. Instead of noticing the chair within the box, i saw the air taking place in that same box and started to fill that air with matter, and the rest followed. I must admitt i had no social perspective, nor profound ideal behind this project, rather than just creating a new solution for space saving to make life easier. The technology itself to produce this furniture wasn´t really a challenge, since all pieces are mostly horizontally and vertically cut.
Production Technology
