In 2005, a group of physicists, engineers and laser technology specialists from different dental laser companies joined forces and founded a new company (Light Instruments Ltd) that developed breakthrough laser innovations for the dental industry. These experts, long-time veterans of the dental laser industry, were well aware of the drawbacks of existing dental lasers conducted a multi-disciplinary research that led to the first all-tissue, non-fiber, non-articulated arm Erbium: YAG dental laser device known as "LiteTouch"™ with Laser-in-the-Handpiece™ technology.
LiteTouch™ is an Erbium: YAG dental laser (2,940nm wavelength) especially designed to treat a wide range of dental procedures in minimally invasive abilities. Over the past 10 years, Erbium: YAG laser treatments have been known to replace most of the traditional treatments in oral and maxillofacial surgery and dentistry. The Erbium: YAG wavelength is well absorbed in water and hydroxyl appetite molecules, which construct the teeth and bone, and are therefore most applicable in variety of hard tissue applications and soft tissue applications, such as incision, excision, bone cutting, ablation of granulation tissue, vaporization of gun tissue and coagulation of soft tissue in oral and maxillofacial surgery and dentistry.
Design Challenges
Erbium: YAG technology, in combination with a strong spray of water, is the only laser that has been clinically proven to be efficient when treating hard tissue as tooth enamel and bone in addition to treating soft tissues like other lasers. The main challenge of Erbium: YAG laser dentistry has always been its dependence on cumbersome, unwieldy beam delivery devices, such as fibers and articulated arms. LiteTouch eliminates all these issues due to its unique technical design, which integrates the laser generation mechanism in the laser handpiece.
