Plate-Oh (Disposable Plate) by Sahar Madanat Haddad
2012 - 2013, Silver A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award Winner
15 billion disposable plates are used annually in the USA alone! Paper plates are very wasteful and are often thrown away after one use, while the plate is still in a good condition. However, only the top layer is really spoiled by the food, yet once used, the plate is entirely tossed away. How can we minimize dishes after picnics, office parties, or while camping, yet feel good about contributing to the environment?!
A biodegradable paper plate with a unique construction of individual layers pressed together. It allows the user to peel off the used upper layer, revealing a clean plate underneath. It lasts for up to 10 uses.
Design Challenges
Making a convenient disposable product also green without changing consumer behavior, but by instilling a new idea into that behavior; peeling and disposing only what you have used!
Production Technology
All natural and 100% biodegradable.
