Inspiration
I got inspired by Phoenix that is a symbol of the perpetual existence. I used a traditional technique of Kanzashi flower to make fabric flowers for expressing the idea of Phoenix. Kanzashi is traditional Japanese folded flowers made from fabric that are used by women as hair ornaments. By the idea of Phoenix that is a symbol of eternal life, this necklace is expressed Swarovski Crystal's eternal sparkle and the traditional technique handed down to the present day.
Creativity
Unique feature of this design is that Kanzashi flowers are used as a part of jewelry. I tried to express with the idea of Phoenix that the eternal sparkle of Swarovski Crystal and a traditional technique handed down over 200 years. Many cultures believe that Phoenix is a symbol of eternal life.
Design Challenges
As the inspiration came to me, I started drawing a design first. I used a traditional Kanzashi flower technique. While making the piece of jewelry, I did adjust the combination of color to improve the design composition as needed.
Production Technology
I used a Tsumami technique, a traditional technique to make petals, flowers, and etc. for Kanzashi (hair ornament) used with kimono, for expressing the idea of Phoenix. By the idea of Phoenix that is a symbol of eternal life, this necklace is expressed Swarovski Crystal's eternal sparkle and the traditional technique that has been handed down to the present day.
