Express Rail Link West Kowloon Terminus (Public Transportation) by Andrew Bromberg at Aedas
2016 - 2017, Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award Winner
As a gateway to Hong Kong, the design connects the station with the surrounding urban context and makes one aware that “I am in Hong Kong”. The design compacted the supporting spaces more efficiently to allow for a large void down into the departure hall below. The outside ground plane bent down to the hall and the roof structure above gestures toward the harbour. The result is an around 40m high volume which focuses all attention through the south façade toward views of the city skyline.
The terminus will be one of the largest underground terminus stations in the world upon completed. The 380,000sqm facility with 15 tracks is currently under construction and will connect Hong Kong to Beijing, China. With the vision to improve and extend the city’s public realm, the impressive terminus has been designed with a fully accessible civic green on the rooftop overlooking the famous Victoria Harbour of Hong Kong.
