Inspiration
To mark the 89 awards received in 2016 and the company foundation in 1998, Omdesign joined 2 Portuguese icons, Port Wine and Cork, in a self-promotion eco-packaging shaped as an acorn, the seed of our commitment to the future. It symbolizes the agency’s environmental and sustainability concerns – the desire to return to nature what we take from it. Cork oak forests, “the lungs of the Mediterranean”, help preserve biodiversity, prevent desertification and absorb 14 million tonnes of CO2 annually.
Creativity
Inside the packaging, there is a real acorn, covered with soil, challenging consumers to start a planting cycle and take part in the cork oak forest preservation efforts.
Design Challenges
To achieve this design, the team had to overcome several difficulties such as: how to keep the acorn in optimal conditions inside the packaging; selecting which type of soil was most appropriate to grow the seed; not using environmentally unfriendly materials, such as oil derivatives.
Production Technology
The top of the packaging is made of wood and its base is a detachable cork agglomerate monoblock, free of any oil derivatives. To encourage users to collect more acorns and renew the plantation cycle, a threaded screw system was developed.
