Heavenly Water (Service Center) by Zhenfei Wang
2016 - 2017, Platinum A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award Winner
Inspiration
The building form was inspired by nature, by the environment; the architects try to make a building merged into nature. Maximize the lake view and the mountain view, get people close to the water and nature.
Creativity
International Horticultural Exposition 2014 opened in Qingdao, as the primary architecture of the Expo area, the building undertook multiple functions including circulation hub, activity center, restaurant, recreational landscape, cultural communication, etc. it merged into its surrounding landscape. A 3armed junction system was used to generate the architecture and landscape, the multiple routes system provided maximum visitor experience and accessibility.
Design Challenges
The Baiguo Mountain and the Heavenly Water lake where the named project is located have outstanding natural landscape. The design treatment of the relationship between architecture and nature is vital to the deliverance of their organic integration. Due to the unique nature of the service centers, which have to handle large circulation flow, the design has to ensure visitors from all directions can reach the service center area swiftly. The landscape architecture form and multiple routes system were applied to overcome these issues.
Production Technology
The building is mainly made of concrete, steel, glass, and aluminum panels. Parametric design methodology was used to generate the form of the building, BIM technology was used to ensure the building quality
