2017 - 2018, Golden A' Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Award Winner
The intention behind this product was to create a vase where the flower is not an alien to the design but is in fact an essential part of the design itself. The flower becomes the head of this four legged creature and defines its ever changing personality.
Bo is a handcrafted porcelain vase which combines the simplicity of Scandinavian design with the subtlety of Spanish craftsmanship. The idea behind Bo is to introduced some playfulness in the realm of vases which is often a world of abstract and lifeless looking objects. The incomplete design of this animal-shaped vase invites the user to decide its final character by choosing from the wide variety of plants and flowers available in nature.
Design Challenges
During the collaboration with the manufacturer, the original design had to be adjusted several times to align with the production techniques. The main challenge rested on the legs of the piece as they are a critical element during fabrication. Several proportions were proposed by the designer and tested in the workshop until the final production was set.
Production Technology
Bo is handcrafted in Spain by experienced porcelain artisans. The exterior surface is brushed to obtain a raw matte finish while the interior surface is glazed to achieve watertightness.
