"little Nest" (Cradle-Baby Bed) by oszkar vagi
2017 - 2018, Golden A' Baby, Kids' and Children's Products Design Award Winner
Inspiration
inspired by the cocoon of the silkworm that is void of every unnecessary detail, but still ensuring perfect safety and gentle protection to its inhabitants. Natural materials and handmade quality are to ensure the best rest of the child sleeping in this cradle.
Creativity
Shaped out of one single wool felt the cradle hugs around the baby as a protective shell taking care of it's peaceful rest. The cradle once it is hanged reacts to every little move of the child and sways it gently. This gives the baby a very similar feeling that it enjoyed prior to its birth. Due to perfectly simple geometry, 100% natural materials and the single-point suspension, babies can enjoy gentle care very similar to what they experienced prior to their birth.
Design Challenges
To get the natural material in the right shape and get it to stay in it once the wooden core is token.
Production Technology
The product is made of two layers of merino wool felt worked by hand with traditional hatter techniques to get and stay in the shape imagined. Finished with brushes it gets the final touch and a smooth feel. To keep the layers fixed together we use s silk yarn and saw it by hand.
